Born   DARCEY STUART WALSH,  2 May 1890 in Wallaroo, South Australia
(SA Birth Record 1842 - 1906 Book: 458 Page: 350 District: Dal.)

Father John WALSH   (b.  -  d. 3/8/1940   87 years old)  and
Mother Margaret Ann (nee HERBERT)  b.    - d.  21/8/1953  94 years old)
living at Margaret Street, Wallaroo, South Australia.   Later moved to Glenelg, SA.
Both are buried with their son, Douglas John Walsh at the West Terrace Cemetery,
Adelaide, SA.

                     (sick with nephritis enlarged heart, bronchitis)

Stated by family, friends and noted in the local newspapers, that although
Douglas returned home, he was a very sick man.

                    nephritis enlarged heart, bronchitis
                    at the 7 Australian General Hospital, Keswick Military Hospital, SA

buried in:      West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide, SA 
                    a plaque in the  "Garden of Remembrance"
                    Section: Road 1 North; Path No. 6;   E/W: W;   Site No.35.

dark complexion; blue eyes; dark hair; Church of England

22/2/1916      Enlisted at Kadina, South Australia

1/3/1916        Mitcham Camp, 6th reinforcements, 32nd Infantry

1/6/1916        Commanding Officer appointed D'Arcy to 1st reinforcements,
                      43rd Infantry Battalion, Morphettville Camp

9/6/1916         Embarked Outer Harbour, Port Adelaide on board HMAT A19 Afric
                      as a Corporal in 11th Infantry Brigade, 43rd Infantry Battalion, A Company
20/7/1916       disembarked into Marseilles, France

25/11/1916     proceeded overseas to France, ex Southampton

5/2/1917         sick to hospital, France
19/2/1917        rejoined 43rd Battalion unit from hospital

8/5/1917          promoted to Sergeant

11/9/1917        promoted to Second Lieutenant

4/10/1917       He was killed by a bullet and previously wounded by a shell,
                      150 yards on the left of Zonnebeke Station.

5/10/1917      buried in the field - and a cross was erected on the grave with
                                                  name and particulars
