Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board


Noel George GODFREY was born at Kogarah in 1894. He joined the NSWGR as an apprentice clerk in 1910 at Darling Harbour. In 1911 he was promoted to junior clerk. In January 1915 he was granted leave to enlist in the AIF at Liverpool. He left Australia through Sydney aboard HMAT ‘Shropshire’ on 17 March 1915.

He was reported missing in action during the fighting at Lone Pine between 6 and 9 August 1915, and a Court of Enquiry later determined that he must have been killed in action at that time.

Noel George GODFREY (Service Number 1757) was born at Kogarah in 1894.  He joined the NSW Government Railways as an apprentice clerk in 1910 at Darling Harbour.  In 1911 he was promoted to junior clerk.  In January 1915 he was granted leave to enlist in the AIF at Liverpool. He left Australia from Sydney aboard HMAT ‘Shropshire’ on 17th March 1915.

He was sent to Gallipoli with reinforcements. He joined the 4th Battalion there in May 1915. 

He was reported missing in action during the fighting at Lone Pine between 6th and 9th August 1915. A Court of Enquiry later determined that he must have been killed in action at that time. 

He has no known grave but is remembered with honour on the Lone Pine Memorial.
