Sapper George Walker (Service No:5445) enlisted in the AIF in January 1915. A Coal Miner in civilian life, he served with Mining Corps before transferring to 1st Tunnelling Coy in France. Sapper Walker was Discharged in August 1919.

Born in 1893 in Ipswich QLD, George was the eldest of four children of Alexander Walker (b1869 in Ipswich, QLD) and Margaret Jane Jackson (b1875 in Toowoomba, QLD). Aelxander (a Boilermaker's Assistant) and Margaret married in 1893 and settled in Ipswich QLD where they raised their family.

George was a Coal Miner in Ipswich, QLD in 1914 when he married Violet Elizabeth Brooks (b1890 in Berkshire, England) - Violet emigrated with her parents and siblings in 1908, arriving in Sydney NSW on board the SS Suffolk. George and Violet settled in Ipswich, QLD where George worked as an Engine Driver. George died in 1952 and Violet in 1979.
