Let us remember a Fallen soldier of The Great War memorialised at Sandgate Cemetery.

On the 17th October 1917, Private Harold Hunt, 54th Battalion (Machine Gun Section, Reg No-4521), carter from 59 Lindsay Street, Hamilton, New South Wales, was Killed in Action by a minenwerfer shell, 1st Battle of Passchendaele, Passchendaele Campaign, age 24.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.
Harold was 19 years of age when he immigrated to Australia, having served with the British Navy for 2 1/2 years.

Born at Ely, Cambridgeshire, England, possibly on the 18th May 1893 to Edwin (died 26.11.1936, Brighton Avenue, Toronto, N.S.W., age 77), from 46 James Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., and Mary Louisa Bergemann Hunt nee Fitzgibbon or Ashby (died 7.8.1948, Brighton Avenue, Toronto, N.S.W., age 82, buried on the Sunday, 8.8.1948, no funeral notice located) from 46 James Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., Harold enlisted on the 2nd August 1915 with the 13th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on the 16th January 1916.
Wounded in action - 20.7.1916 (GSW leg, mild, Battle of Fromelles).

Transferred to England and admitted to hospital 21.7.1916, 21.9.1916 (nephritis).

Granted furlough to London from 9.11.1916 to 24.11.1916.

Mr. Hunt is resting at Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium. Plot XXXIII Row G Grave 2.

Harold’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial, Hamilton St. Peter's Anglican Church Honor Roll, Book of Gold, Wickham Municipal District Roll of Honour Board (1) and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised Hunt gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of their son for God, King & Country. ANGLICAN 2-130. 24.

Younger brother Epenetus (Eppienetus) Fitzgibbon G (Eppie, born about 1894, Ely, Cambridgeshire, England, Gunner with the Royal Horse Artillery, from 12 Donald Street, Hamilton, New South Wales, enlistment date unknown, RTA date unknown, died 25.8.1935, age 41, not officially commemorated, laid to rest at ANGLICAN 2-130. 22.

Younger brother Raymond (born about 1899, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom, clipper from Edward Street, Kurri Kurri, New South Wales, enlisted 24.1.1916, 36th Battalion, Reg No-1139, RTA 9.8.1919, 55th Battalion, died 6.11.1961, Toronto, N.S.W., age 62, laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, ANGLICAN 3-180. 4, officially commemorated – https://connect.dva.gov.au/.../viewCommemoration.html...).
