About 3:15 PM on the 18th June 1917, Sergeant Arthur William Thomas Mounter, referred to as Sandy, 7th Australian Field Artillery Brigade (Reg No-18505), clerk (Lands Department, Sydney, N.S.W), from "Pendennis", 39 Winship Street, Hamilton, New South Wales, was Killed in Action by a high explosive shrapnel splinter, to the right of Ploegsteert Wood, south of Messines Ridge, age 33.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 25th February 1884 to Mark (died 15.4.1938, Hamilton, N.S.W., age 81) of 203 Denison Street, Hamilton, N.S.W. and Rebecca Mounter (died 1.7.1941, Hamilton, N.S.W., age 79) of 203 Denison Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., Sandy enlisted on the 28th October 1915 at Holsworthy, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A8 Argyllshire on the 11th May 1916.

Sandy is resting at the Strand Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot I Row C Grave 4.

Laid to rest on the 19th June 1917.

Mr. Mounter’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial, East Maitland High School Roll of Honour, NSW Lands Department WW1 Roll of Honour, Moree War Memorial Hall - Boer War and World War One Honour Rolls, Moree & District Fallen Soldiers Honour Roll, Moree ANZAC Centenary Memorial, Baulkham Hills - World War 1 Memorial - William Thompson Masonic Schools War Memorial, Sydney United Grand Lodge Honour Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised gravesite of the Mounter family in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of Sandy for God, King & Country. BAPTIST G SE. 20.
