There are few men who could equal his record of public service and his influence for good for the ex-servicemen's movement. He joined the State Board of the SA Branch of the RSL in 1936 as a Vice President.  He was elected Federal President  in 1946 a role he held at the time of his death.  He was Knight in the new years honour for 1950 by the King. 

Sir Eric exelled in all fields of endevour he undertook.  He was appointed a King's Councel in 1945. Chairman of the National Football League.  Chairman of the Police Appeal Board.  President and later Patron of the Amateur Billiards Association.  he was an officer with the St. John Ambulance.  Obiturary in the 1949 National RSL Annual report.
