Son of George and Hannah BAIN, Derrinallum, Vic.

21st Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement. Place of death or wounding

25 August 1916, Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, France exhumed from a grave at Pozieres 1929 and reburied at Serre Road Cem. No.2. Plot 24, Row B, Grave 7.

Robert Marshall BAIN was the youngest son of George BAIN (1842–1926) &Hannah BAIN (1849–1934) (nee MARSHALL) of Derrinallum.

He enlisted on the 15/4/1915 at 26 yrs 1 mth , 5’ 9 I/4 ins, complexion dark , blue eyes, brown hair. Occupation labourer. Religion- Presbyterian and single. He suffered with flu and other bouts of ill health.

He was Killed in Action 25 August 1916 Place of death or wounding Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, France.

Robert Marshall BAIN was exhumed from a grave at Pozieres and reburied at Serre Road Cem. No.2. Plot 24, Row B, Grave 7.

His family received his personal effects 1917. His medals & Memorials in the 1920’s. In 1929 they were informed of his exhumation and received his identity disc

BAIN—In loving memory of our dearest brother, Robert Marshall, killed instantaneously by a shell at Moquet Farm, France, on 25th August, 1916.
Peaceful at rest he slumbers,
Who fought for the cause he loved ;
One of the countless numbers,
For freedom to shed his blood.
Inserted by his loving sisters and brothers-in-law, B. M. and G. Skene ; also A. and L. V. Edgar, and nephews Robbie, Ronald and Walter and little neice Lesley Joyce.
