Walter Edward Higgs was a younger brother to 6870 Pte. Francis William Higgs 2nd Battalion AIF who was later killed in action 9 August 1918, aged 34.
Walter Higgs, served on Gallipoli with the 1st Battery of the 1st Field Artillery Brigade, and fought right through the Gallipoli campaign from start to finish. Shortly after the evacuation, at which he was present, he transferred to the 5th Division Artillery fought a Fromelles. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to the 6th Field Artillery Brigade a few months prior to his death. He was only 21 years of age.
