Trooper 880 Richard Bowering was born in London however moved to Cornwall at a very young age.

When aged 17 years and 8 months, he left Plymouth, England in June 1913 with two friends to take up farming in Australia.

The three men enlisted in the AIF together in 1914. He was taken on strength of the 8th Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli on 5 August 1915 and was killed in action during the charge at The Nek (Walkers Ridge) just two days later.

He is also remembered on the Forrabury and Minster War Memorial, Cornwall, UK.

One of his two English friends (Harry Hoskin) was also killed the same day.
