Trooper Charles Henry Lane , service number 294 was born in Nathalia , Victoria 1894. Before the war Charles Lane was a farm/station hand, he is a British subject. His father and next of kin was James Owen Lane, James lived on 155 Wakefield St Adelaide, SA. Charles Lane did have previous military service but it is unknown of what this may be. There is no information on the schooling of Charles Henry Lane.

On the 20th of October 1914, Lane enlisted into WW1 at Morphettville, South Australia. Charles Lane was 20 years old, 5ft 10, his weight was 165 lbs, chest measurement was 37 inches, had a fresh complexion, blue eyes and was in great health. He had all the right requirements for the war. Charles Lane embarked on the 11th of February 1915 on the HWAT Karro in Melbourne as a Private, he was in the Army/flying corps.

Charles Lane never became sick during his time at war, but on the 28th of June 1915 Charles.H.Lane sustained a sharpened wound to the left thigh and died the following day. Charles was buried at sea. He died in Gallipoli, Dardanelles, Turkey. Charles Henry Lane's, name can be found  at Panel 7 , in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial. His name will next be projected onto the exterior wall of the Hall of Memory on the 26th of December 2017 at 12:18am.

Biography

"...294 Trooper Charles Henry Lane, 9th Light Horse Regiment. He sustained a shrapnel wound to the left thigh near Walker's Ridge at Gallipoli on 28 June 1915 and was evacuated to the hospital ship Sicilia.
