TROOPER OAKES KILLED.
A cable has been received announcing the death of Trooper A. W. Oakes, of the 1st Australian Light Horse, who was killed in action at the Dardanelles. He was the only son of Archdeacon Oakes, of Bathurst, and son-in-law of Mr. J. W. Duesbury, one time manager of Messrs. T. H. Marks and Co., Mudgeo, and now of Cremorne, and was married a few days before his departure to the front. Trooper Oakes was M.A. of Sydney University, and partner in a lending firm of accountants in Brisbane, which position he relinquished about 12 months ago in order to enlist.
