Arvan James PRICHARD was born as surname PRITCHARD on 26th June, 1898 in Charters Towers, Queensland

His parents were William Gordon PRITCHARD and Katherine May KELLY who married on 8th January, 1895 in Queensland - they had 3 children, Arvan James, William Roy & Daphne

He enlisted in Liverpool, NSW on 21st April, 1915 as a Private and embarked with the 20th Battalion, D Company on the HMAT Berrima on 25th June, 1915

He worked his way through the ranks from Private to Lieutenant (see his NAA Service File for more details)

Arvan was killed instanlty by a shell on 18th July, 1918 in France and was buried near where he fell & a cross was erected on his grave (see photo)

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial , The Villers Bretonneux Memorial in France &  a War Memorial in Cumbria, England (see photo)
