Biography
Colin William Danks AINSWORTH was born on 17th August, 1920 in Kent Town, Adelaide, South Australia
His parents were William Thomas AINSWORTH and Elsie May AUSTIN
He first enlisted on 15th June, 1940 for WW2 - He was in the Australian Imperial Force from that date until 29th January, 1946 when he was discharged
Colin was a Japanese prisoner of war (more information on following links) He was in POW camps Hintok & Kongu. His posting at discharge was with the 2/3 Machine Gun Battalion
He also signed up again on 17th September, 1951 to serve in the Korean War - his son Daryl Colin AINSWORTH served in Vietnam (S/N 44926 /Corporal)
Colin was awarded the 1939 Africa Star, Pacific Aust. war service, general service, 1939 Star, Pacific star,defence medal, korea medal, & united nations service medal
He married Audrey Joyce JOHNS on 15th December, 1946 (see following story from the newspapers)
Colin died on 31st December, 1963 in South Australia and is buried in Centennial Park Cemetery, Adelaide

Ex P.O.W. leaves Hospital to marry
Stating that he went absent without leave so that he could get married. Pte Colin William Danks Ainsworth, 25, a former prisoner of war in Japanes hands, pleaded guilty to a charge of having been AWL from the Northfield Military Hospital from December 19th to January 2nd. Pte Ainsworth stated that after enlsting in 1940 he went to the Middle East with the 2/3rd Machine Gun Battalion which was transferred to Java in 1942. He said that he was sent to hospital early in November and as he could not get leave he went AWL and was married five days later. He had reported back to the hospital but had asked to be tried by district court martial. The court was closed for consideration of sentence which will be promulgated later.
