Biography contributed by Robert Wight

"Advices received from the Defence Department by Mr. and Mrs. H. Jones of Railton stated that their son. Lance-Corporal A. Jones, of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade had been killed in action.

A note on the casualty lists on Monday stated that he was reported missing, but hope was entertained of perhaps finding him in one of the hospitals.

A wire received by the Minister, however, containing the above information, dispelled this hope. The deepest sympathy is felt for the bereaved family in their sad loss, their only consolation being that ‘he did his duty for King and country.

Lance-Corporal A. Jones was well and favorably known and was a prominent footballer, having played for several seasons with the Cananore club in the South, and up to the time of enlisting he was one of the leading players of the Fitzroy team, Victoria.

The ''Argus” says the Fitzroy footballers have learned with regret of the death of one of last season's players killed in action at Gallipoli. The player is Arthur Jones, the young Tasmanian, who showed much promise."
