14 Mar 1919: | Honoured Military Medal, During the minor operation carried out by the 8th Australian Infantry Brigade South West of MORLANCOURT on night of 28th/29th July 1918 this N.C.O. rendered valuable service. he was in charge of a carrying party attached to a mobile mortar, his task was to carry Stokes shells forward moving with the second wave of the attack. Midway across 'No Man's Land' his party suffered casualties under the enemy barrage. Although wounded Corporal LAING stuck to his task, kept his party together and got his ammunition to the newly captured position, thus materially assisting in the consolidation. He has since been evacuated owing to his wounds | |
