Father Albert George Detmar was held as a POW (Feb 1915).  He stated that he was naturalised in the United States but not in Australia, and had lived in Australia for 24 years, with all his sons having been born here in Australia.  His wife died some years ago.

Brother Albert William Detmar, lived at Minlaton, SA.

Described on enlisting as 20 years old; 5' 5" tall; 140 lbs; fresh complexion;
brown eyes, brown hair, church of England. 

14/9/1914     enlisted into WWI at Morphettville, SA

1/12/1914     appointed Transport Driver with 16th Battalion

19/12/1914   appointed to H Company, Broadmeadow Camp

22/12/1914   embarked Port of Melbourne, onboard HMAT A40 Ceramic
                    as a Private with 16th Battalion

12/4/1915     proceeded to join Mediteranean Expeditionary Forces in Gallipoli

He took part in the attack on the position known as Dead Man's Ridge, between Pope's Post
and Quinn's Post.  The casualties were very heavy in the 16th Battalion in that attack.
Stated by 445 Sgt J Matthews, C Comapny 48th AIF

His name is commemorated on Panel 52 at the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula,
Canakkale Province, Turkey.

Arthur August Charles DETMAR was born in Victoria in 1894 according to his war record but his birth doesn't appear in Victorian BDM records

His parents were Gustav George Albert DETMAR & Elizabeth Augusta WITTNER
