Thrice wounded in Belgium and France. Gassed - shell wound to forehead - gun shot wound to forearm
20059 Gunner Robert “Bert” Arbuckle, 110th Howitzer Battery, 10th Brigade, 4th Division - fought in fifteen major engagements in France and Belgium, wounded twice, gassed, wounded again but survived to be invalided home January 1919. Bert never married and his farm, neighbouring the McFarlane property mentioned below, passed to his sister Elizabeth “Elsie” McFarlane/Macfarlane (not related to his neighbour) in Sale. He is the only WW1 serviceman in Bumberrah Cemetery with the Rising Sun insignia on his grave.
