Joseph V. Brennan

Staff-Sergeant Joseph Vincent Brennan (6501) was born at Toodyay and educated at Christian Brothers College. He is a son of Mrs. and the late James Brennan. His mother resides at Toodyay. On the 30th March 1914, he was married to M.E.Chipper, daughter of Emily and the late Charles Chipper. They had two children, Jose and Harry. He enlisted at Perth on the 13th March 1915, and left W.A. with the A.A.M.C. Reinforcements in November 1915 for Egypt. He proceeded to France with the 3rd Field Ambulance and landed in Marseilles on the 2nd April 1916. He served with the Ambulance in all the stunts in which the 1st Division participated. In March 1917 he was sent to England and then invalided to Australia for two months furlough. On the termination of his leave he re-joined his old unit and remained with them until after the signing of the Armistice. He returned home on the 30th June 1919.
