Robert Thornton MELLOR was born on 28th May, 1899 in Medindie in South Australia

His parents were James Taylor MELLOR and Emma Masterman ADAMS

Robert served in both WW1 and WW2 as follows

Service No. 39801 - enlisted 28th May 1917 with the Field Artillery Brigade as a gunner

Unit embarked from Sydney on SS Port Darwin 30th April, 1918

He transferred to the 14th Field Artillery Brigade

He had previous service with the 78th Infantry when he enlisted

Robert returned to Australia on 8th July 1919 & was discharged on 21st September, 1919

His brothers Kenneth James MELLOR and Thomas Reginald MELLOR also served in WW1 and both of them also returned to Australia

He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal

Robert enlisted on 1st April, 1942 in Adelaide, SA

Service no. S68250 - rank Sergeant

He was discharged on 11th October 1945 - posting at discharge was in the 2nd Battalion Volunteer Defence Corp
