On enlisting Cyril was 19 years old, a Tinsmith, Church of England, single and living at Miller St, North Unley, South Australia.

22/2/1915  Enlisted at Keswick, SA, Private C Co. Base Infantry

16/3/1915  joined 27th Infantry Battalion

31/5/1915  Embarked Port Adelaide, onboard HMAT Geelong A2.
                  as a Corporal in Machine Gun Battalion (MGB).

5/7/1919    Married Catherine Oldring, 31 yrs, widow
                  Parish Church at Wandsworth, Battersea

8/10/1919   returned to Australia, with Catherine, on board Benalla
22/11/1919 disembarked into Port Adelaide

23/1/1920    discharged
