Kenton served in the Middle East and France throughout his 2 years with the A.I.F. While serving in Egypt he was treated at the 13th Field Ambulance at Tel-el-Kebir for influenza but was able to rejoin the 52nd Battalion after a few days. Kenton was sent to France with his unit on 12 June 1916 where he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal on 8 November. He was killed in action on 11 April 1917. Private J. Whiting claimed he found Kenton’s body and stated that “near Arras I found this man dead in a shell hole, he had been shot through the chest in several places. I took his identity disc and handed it over when making this report.” However, Private F. Whibley and Private A. Frost both claim they saw Lance Corporal Moore at Bullecourt where he was killed by a shell. The reports appear contradictory and the exact location of his death remains uncertain.
