"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to dutywhenin charge of a party burying a cable to the front line. As the party was assemblingthe enemy opened an intense barrrage, during which he was blown up and badly bruised by a shell. Although severely shaken, he remained at his post until the task was completed."
