Beaumont Colbey GAY was the fifth child and fourth son of Mary Watts (COLBEY) and Archibald GAY who was born in Adelaide.

He married Alice GRAY at Broken Hill 15 July 1899 and had 5 living children when he enlisted, despite stating he had 4 children.

He was employed by the SA Railways as a pointsman (operating points and/or switches).

He had a serious gunshot wound to the neck in France, 4th October, 1917 and was evacuated to the First General Hospital, Cambridge, England.  He was declared medically unfit for further service and returned to Australia, 1918.

He resumed employment with SA Railways.
