Biography contributed by Jeffrey Crisdale

Private Stephen Henry Fitzhenry was an original member of the 2nd/17th Infantry Battalion who also served in the Tobruk, Tel el Eisa, El Alamein & Lae campaigns.

Battalion Diary quote:

"Despite the intensity of the bombardment [at The Knoll near Jivevaneng] and the loss of their mates, the troops were steadfast and volunteers came freely to fill in the gaps. One such volunteer, Pte S.H. Fitzhenry of 12 Platoon, ["B" Company] was mortally wounded by direct [artillery] shellfire while he attempted to reach a forward fox hole and died before he could receive attention".
