5 May 1918: | Honoured Military Medal, For fine devotion to duty, courage and excellent leadership whilst in charge of linesmen laying telephone wires from Battalion HQ to the front line during the progress of the counter attack near Villers-Bretonneux on 24/25 April 1918. This line had to be carried across ground continuously swept by enemy machine gun fire from both flanks and was laid whilst enemy artillery barrage, which immediately followed our attack, was at its highest. His example greatly inspired all other signallers in their very difficult and dangerous work they were called on to do on 25 April 1918.
